Concrete Peace Service North-Rhein-Westphalia (Konkreter Friedensdienst NRW)

Many young people between the age of 18 and 27 have been supported by this programme of Engagement Global (former programme of InWEnt) in North-Rhein-Westphalia and could therefore participate in Partnership-Projects. Concrete Peace Service funded single persons as well as groups, e.g. learners from Inda-Gymnasium who visited their partner-school Luhlaza High in Khayelitsha in 2006 and students from the RWTH University of Aachen, who did research in several sustainable projects in Cape Town with their professor of Landscape Architecture in 2005.

All the German students who came to Cape Town in 2006, 2008 and 2010 to take part in the Bauwagen goes South projects of Stadtoasen e.V. have been funded by this programme. Once students are accepted in that programme Engagement Global will give them a fixed stipend to support flight, mobility and travel insurance. Now in 2014 the fixed stipend is 980 Euro per person.

In 2013 Concrete Peace Service started a pilot project KF SOUTH–NORTH with the project title: Strengthening civil society stakeholders of the countries of the Global South by means of exchange and cooperation. Engagement Global invited 6 participants from 6 different organizations of the Global South with ties to North Rhine-Westphalia and 6 NGOs from North Rhine-Westphalia with already established ties to partners in the Global South were also invited to participate. As the Cape Town-Aachen Partnership is well established, a young South African from Selfhelp Manenberg could participate and she spent 2 months in Germany, mostly at the partner NGO Welthaus in Aachen.
